Since 2000, generous American Catholics have provided thousands of dollars for projects which were submitted to our office by the bishops of Tajikistan. These efforts have helped the Church in Tajikistan rebuild itself and begin to live and serve in freedom. The following are just a few examples of past, ongoing, and new projects sponsored through our office.
With your help, we have …
… Helped the mission in Tajikistan to begin and build a foundation
…Supplied Catholic literature to parishes and public libraries
There are two Catholic parishes in Tajikistan. All of the religious literature has to be brought in from Russia – a week long train ride from Moscow. This office provided funds to purchase books in Russia and transport them to Dushanbe where parish libraries were established. Some of this literature was made available to public libraries, which only offer Soviet-era writings on Catholicism.
… and we continue to …
… Support the mission as it continues to serve and grow
In this traditionally Muslim country there live Catholic faithful with pastoral and spiritual needs. With our support, the new mission can serve them more effectively. Request submitted: $15,000
…Support religious programming cassette distribution in Central Asia
Kana Studio in Novosibirsk, Russia is producing religious programs for local broadcast. Since the costs of setting up video studios in each of the Central Asian countries would be prohibitive, the idea of setting up a system of TV cassette distribution was born. These programs are used by priests and religious in their pastoral work. Catholic television also creates a feeling of unity among Catholics separated by tremendous distances in this remote part of the world. This service is offered free of charge to the parishes. Amount requested: $7,000.
