Our Work in Uzbekistan

Since 1993, generous American Catholics have provided more than $150,000 in projects which were submitted to our office by the bishops of Uzbekistan. These efforts have helped the Church in Uzbekistan rebuild itself and begin to live and serve in freedom. The following are just a few examples of past, ongoing, and new projects sponsored through our office.

With your help, we have …

… Supported construction of two parish churches in Samarkand
These churches mark the beginning of the missionary Catholic community in Uzbekistan, a small but faithful community of Catholics who live in the region.

… and we continue to …

… Provide funds for ongoing needs of the mission
We continue to support this mission as it grows and serves the local Catholic community. Request submitted: $20,000

…Support religious programming cassette distribution in Central Asia
Kana Studio in Novosibirsk, Russia is producing religious programs for local broadcast. Since the costs of setting up video studios in each of the Central Asian countries would be prohibitive, the idea of setting up a system of TV cassette distribution was born. These programs are used by priests and religious in their pastoral work. Catholic television also creates a feeling of unity among Catholics separated by tremendous distances in this remote part of the world. This service is offered free of charge to the parishes. Amount requested: $7,000.

…Provide assistance for construction of a church in Samarkand
The Sacred Heart Church is the only Catholic parish in this country. The Church’s work here is truly missionary.
