Canon Law Seminar for Media

In the wake of news stories on clergy sexual abuse of minors and the Church's response, the U.S. Bishops and the Canon Law Society of America hosted members of the media for a daylong seminar on Canon Law as it applies to clergy sexual abuse. Four noted canon lawyers gave presentations.
Father Kevin McKenna of the Diocese of Rochester, New York, addressed how Canon Law and civil law work together for the common good.
Sister Sharon Euart, RSM, provided an overview of the U.S. experience of the issue of sexual abuse of minors and Canon Law.
Father John Beal of the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania, explained crime and punishment in the Church.
Very Rev. Lawrence DiNardo of the Diocese of Pittsburgh discussed canonical penal procedures.
The presenters also participated in a panel discussion.
