WASHINGTON (January 5, 1997) -- Movie reviews produced by the U.S. Catholic Conference's (USCC) Office for Film and Broadcasting are available through Heaven, the World Wide Web page of Catholic Digest magazine.
The reviews, which highlight current theater releases, are produced in capsule form. Each capsule includes a brief plot summary of the movie, moral analysis, its classification by the USCC and its rating by the Motion Picture Association of America. The movie list is updated every Friday. The Web page also includes a weekly recommended home video for family viewing.
Capsule reviews of older movies and video releases also are available through CD Cinema Vault, which is accessed through the Catholic Digest Web page.
The capsule reviews are the same ones available through a toll-free movie review line, 1-800-311- 4CCC, sponsored by the U.S. Bishops' Catholic Communication Campaign. Full-length reviews are available through America Online at the Catholic News Service site on AOL, and can be accessed by AOL members using the keyword, "CNS."
Heaven was launched less than a year ago by Catholic Digest, a national inspirational magazine with more than a million readers monthly. The magazine's Web design uses a light-hearted approach, including an elevated train ride through various stops such as Chat Street and Terminal Inspiration. The trip is guided by a monthly host dubbed Seeker of the Sacred.
Heaven can be found at http://www.CatholicDigest.org.
The Bishops' Film and Broadcasting Office each week provides full-length movie reviews, brief capsules and film classifications of new theater releases.
Reviewers include Henry Herx, Director, and Gerri Pare, Associate Director, of the Film and Broadcasting Office, which is funded by the Catholic Communication Campaign.
