Millennium, Jubilee Year 2000 Logo Available Now; Banners, Buttons, Video Coming out in Summer

WASHINGTON (April 29, 1997) — Clip art camera-ready sheets of the Vatican-approved logo for Jubilee Year 2000 are available through the U.S. Bishops' Office for the Millennium and Jubilee Year 2000.

Buttons emblazoned with the logo will be available in summer. Those wishing to order buttons should contact the Jubilee Secretariat by May 15. Costs are expected to run 75 cents to one dollar each.

Banners with the logo will be available in late summer. Information on cost and ordering will be forthcoming.

A 7-8 minute video on preparing for the jubilee also will be available over the summer. The audio- visual aid will facilitate reflection on preparing for the jubilee and is meant to be a discussion starter for parish, school and group meetings. Information on cost and ordering will be forthcoming.

The logo sheets of the Spanish- and English-language versions of the international logo are available in color and in black and white. The cost is $3.00 for a black and white sheet and $4.00 for a color sheet. The logo is also available on a diskette at a cost of $10 per diskette. A package of all three is available for $15.00.

A complimentary copy of each logo sheet will be sent to archdioceses, dioceses and national organizations by May 1.

The multi-colored logo design includes a Greek cross inscribed in a circular blue field that symbolizes the universe and the need for solidarity. The cross upholds all of humanity, symbolized by a circle of doves. A light from the center represents Christ as the light of the world. The logo's four colors are red, green, orange and blue, and reflect the joy and peace that are integral to jubilee celebrations.

A Scripture quote, "Christ Yesterday, Today, Forever," from the Book of Hebrews, 13:8, is around the inside edge of the blue field. Outside the field is the phrase Jubilee 2000 or Jubileo Ano 2000.

The Jubilee Year 2000 logo is trademarked by the U.S. Catholic Conference (USCC) and may not be used in any way without prior permission of the USCC. No commercial usage of the logo will be granted until September 1, 1997.

Permission to use the logo for catechetical, educational, liturgical, and informational purposes will be granted to dioceses and archdioceses, including parish schools, and Catholic organizations once a non-commercial usage license is granted by the USCC.

All rights to license or use the official logo for commercial purposes are retained by the USCC. The logo may not be printed on softgoods, pins, hats, etc. for sale or trade without prior written permission of the USCC through a commercial licensing agreement.

Permission to use the logo may be requested by writing the Secretariat for the Third Millennium and Jubilee Year 2000, 3211 Fourth St., N.E. Washington, D.C. 20017-1194.

On-going information on activities in preparation for the Jubilee Year 2000 are available through the Jubilee 2000 newsletter, $15 annually, and available through the Millennium Secretariat.

Information also is available through the Jubilee Year Web Site, www.nccbuscc.org/jubilee. The Web site will feature information from the Vatican, suggestions for prayer and worship, and updates on programs and initiatives from around the country, a national framework for action and use of the logo.

A 26-page resource book, Preparing for the Jubilee Year 2000, to help dioceses and parishes prepare for the Jubilee Year is available from the Secretariat for $2.00 plus shipping. Bulk price is $1.50 for 51-150 copies and one dollar each for 151 or more copies, plus shipping.
