Millennium Poster, Framework for Action, Parishioner's Guide Released by Bishops' Subcommittee on the Millennium

WASHINGTON (October 28, 1997) -- A four-color poster, a framework for action, and a parishioner's guide for preparing for the Millennium are among materials now available to help Catholics get ready for the coming of the Jubilee Year 2000.

The materials have been produced by the U.S. Bishops' Subcommittee on the Third Millennium. They are being released in time for the First Sunday of Advent, November 30, when the subcommittee is urging dioceses to highlight preparations for the year 2000.

The 17''x 22'' poster features the international Millennium logo proclaiming "Jubilee 2000" and a New Testament quote from Hebrews, 13:8, "Christ Yesterday, Today and Forever" circling a ring of doves. The logo is superimposed over faces of people of all ages and races and the NCCB Millennium motto, "Open wide the doors to Christ," fills the border. The poster has been designed as a resource for churches, schools, Catholic institutions and homes.

The framework for action is produced in pamphlet form and titled Open Wide the Doors to Christ: A Framework for Action to Implement Tertio Millennio Adveniente. The framework outlines initiatives and activities from dioceses and parishes around the country and includes suggestions, goals and accompanying objectives for preparation for this celebration of the Jubilee Year.

The resource for individuals, A Parishioner's Guide: Preparing for the Jubilee Year 2000, is an eight-fold brochure that has been designed for individual parishioners and suggests ways to prepare for the turn of the Millennium.

It offers nine recommendations

  • Make time for prayer.
  • Practice forgiveness.
  • Celebrate the Eucharist.
  • Live a just life.
  • Help the poor.
  • Be a domestic church.
  • Share faith.
  • Join a small Christian community.
  • Know your faith.
