Cardinal Law Issues Statement on Explosion in Birmingham

WASHINGTON (January 29, 1998) -- Cardinal Bernard Law, Chairman of the Committee for Pro-Life Activities of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, issued the following statement today following the explosion at the clinic in Birmingham:

"We are deeply saddened at the news of the death and the injuries caused by an explosion at an abortion clinic in Alabama. If initial reports are true, and this destruction was intentional, we condemn, in the strongest possible terms, such murderous violence. We will pray for the families of the victims of today's tragedy and for the victims themselves."
