Cardinal Law Commends Vote To Override Veto of Partial Birth Abortion Ban

WASHINGTON (July 23, 1998)--Cardinal Bernard Law, Chairman of the Pro-Life Committee of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, issued the following statement today after the House of Representatives voted to override the President's veto of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban.

"I commend the members of Congress who today voted to override the President's veto of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban. No nation and no congress can, in good conscience, permit the killing of partly-born infants. Soon, the Senate will have the same opportunity--to stop the brutal killing of infants by partial-birth abortion. We pray that the Senate will make the right choice."

The vote to override was 296-132.
