NCCB Administrative Committee, Representing Bishops From Throughout The Country, Urges Senate to Override President's Veto of a Ban on Partial-Birth Abortion

WASHINGTON (September 16,1998)--In a statement released here today, the Administrative Committee of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (NCCB), which represents Bishops from Catholic dioceses throughout this country, urged the U.S. Senate to override President Clinton's veto of a ban on partial-birth abortion.

"We pray that this long and difficult chapter in our country's abortion debate be brought to the only appropriate conclusion: the rejection of a truly heinous violation of human rights and dignity," the Bishops said.

The 60-member Administrative Committee which met here this week represents the Catholic Bishops of the United States and prepares the agenda for their general meetings.

The Senate is scheduled to vote to override the President's veto on Friday.
