WASHINGTON (October 6, 1998)--Thomas Meehan, Director of Human Resources for the National Conference of Catholic Bishops/United States Catholic Conference, died October 4, following an extended illness.
Mr. Meehan joined the staff of the Bishops' Conferences in 1987. He worked previously for Chevy Chase Bank where he was Assistant Vice President for Personnel and Director of Employment and Employee Relations.
"Tom will be greatly missed by all of us," said Msgr. Dennis M. Schnurr, NCCB/USCC General Secretary. "He served us in the Department of Human Resources for eleven years and made the Conference and the Church it serves one of the top priorities in his life. He had a deep commitment to the Conference and its staff and his regard and concern for them continued even when illness forced him to leave his work."
Headquartered in Washington, NCCB and USCC are the organizations of the Catholic Bishops of the United States. As Director of Human Resources, Mr. Meehan was in charge of an office concerned with personnel policies, health benefits, and other matters for some 350 employees.
Born in Rochester, N.Y., Mr. Meehan was a 1974 graduate of the University of Scranton. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Irene Meehan, his brothers James and John Meehan, and nephews Matthew and Daniel.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament here at 11 A.M., Thursday, October 8.
