March Events

March is Women's History Month. It has been observed each year since 1987, when Congress passed a bipartisan resolution of support. The observance recognizes the contributions of women from all races and ethnic backgrounds to government, education, business, religion, the arts--all areas of U.S. life. This year's theme is "Women Putting our Stamp on America." The official poster features 37 U.S. postage stamps honoring women. For further information, contact Sheila Garcia at 202-541-3040.

In early March, the bishop's Subcommittee on the Third Millennium will release a resource to help parishes celebrate the Jubilee Year 2000. A Parish Guide to the Jubilee Year contains a brief vision statement, a national activities calendar for 2000, identifies "8 Ways" that every parish can become involved, and lists resources available to support the suggestions contained in the book. This resource can be purchased through the U.S.C.C. Office of Publishing Services, Publication N. 5-316 English. Spanish edition is anticipated. Cost is $4.95 plus shipping and handling. To order, please call 1-800-235-8722.

A leadership convocation on life issues entitled In His Image: Called to Build a Culture of Life, sponsored by the Pontifical Council for the Family and U.S. Bishops' Committee for Pro-Life Activities, will be held in Washington D.C. March 3-5. For more information, call the Secretariat for Pro-Life Activities at 202-541-3070.

Feast of St. Joseph is March 19.

Holy Week begins March 28.
