Fr. Frederick Campbell Named Auxiliary of St. Paul and Minneapolis

WASHINGTON (March 1, 1999) -- Pope John Paul II has named Father Frederick F. Campbell, pastor of St. Joseph Church, West St. Paul, as Auxiliary to Archbishop Harry J. Flynn of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Bishop-designate Campbell, 55, was named Titular Bishop of Afufenia.

Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, announced the appointment.

Frederick Campbell was born in Elmira, New York, on August 5, 1943.

He attended elementary and secondary schools in Horseheads, New York and earned a history degree from Ohio State University. In 1976 he entered St. Paul Seminary in Minnesota. He was ordained a priest May 31, 1980.

Following ordination, Father Campbell was associate pastor, St. Charles Borromeo, Minneapolis, from 1980 to 1987 and pastor of St. John Church, in Hopkins, Minnesota, from 1987 to 1994.

Bishop-designate Campbell was named pastor of St. Joseph, West St. Paul, in 1994.
