July Events

In July, the Jubilee Justice Gathering and the National Convention of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians will showcase the song commissioned by the Bishops' Subcommittee for the Third Millennium. The bishops' subcommittee has identified the Te Deum as the national song for 2000. Copies of the song are available from G.I.A. Publications, Inc., 7404 So Mason Avenue, Chicago, IL. 60638. For additional information contact G.I.A. at the above address or the Secretariat for the Third Millennium at 202-541-3244 or jubilee@nccbuscc.org.

The 4th of July is recognized as Independence Day. During this time the United States commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. This could be a good time to alert media to religious celebrations to mark the nations's birthday.

The National Catholic Gathering for Jubilee Justice will be held in Los Angeles on July 15-18. This is the largest gathering for justice in the history of the Church in the United States. Workshops will address more than 100 topics, including racism, the environment, health care, non-violence, parish social ministry, liturgy and worship, debt forgiveness, sweatshops, immigration, euthanasia and other pro-life issues, education for justice and Catholic identity. For further information, request the 24-page registration book by phoning or faxing the Jubilee Justice Office, phone: 202-541-3149, fax: 202-541-3351, or go to www.nccbuscc.org/jubileejustice.

Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola is July 31. This might be a good time to feature Jesuit institutions within your diocese.
