Diocesan communications staff might want to seek ways to give the media photo opportunities for Holy Week and Easter season as soon as possible, i.e. early enough to make the evening news!

American Bishops' Overseas Appeal will be collected April 1-2 in solidarity with the world's poor. Its theme: "Provide hope in the new Millennium."

April 7-9 Symposium: "Against Forgetting: Oscar Romero, the Central American Martyrs and the Public Witness of the Church," Rivier College Peace and Social Justice Center, Nashua, NH.

"American Families in Peril: The Impact of Our Laws on Immigrants and Families," a conference sponsored by the U.S. Catholic Conference and the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc., will be held April 11 at the Columbus School of Law, The Catholic University of America.

April 16 is Palm Sunday.

Catholics working to relieve the debt of the world's poorest countries will mobilize for the national Jubilee 2000 Rally in Washington April 9. A human chain around the capitol will "symbolize the chains of debt that are weighing down our brothers and sisters in Africa and Latin America,'' note Jubilee 2000/USA organizers.

April 20 is Holy Thursday.

Passover begins on April 20.

April 21 is Good Friday.

Holy Saturday is April 22. This date the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is celebrated, when thousands of new Catholics will be baptized or re-enter the Church.

April 22 is the 30th Anniversary of Earth Day.

Easter is celebrated April 23.

April 25-28: NCEA Seminary Department, annual convention and exposition, Marriott Inner Harbor Hotel, Baltimore.

Also April 25-28: Annual Convocation of the National Association of Parish Coordinators and Directors of Education, theme: "Excellence in Catechesis: Broad Stripes and Bright Stars." Hyatt Regency, Baltimore.

Sponsored by the Chicago Center for Global Ministries and Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, World Mission Institute 2000: "What Hope for People? The Point of Mission, will be held April 27-29 at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago.

April 26 is National Secretaries Day.

April 27 has been designated the Jubilee Day for Single People, which will celebrate the diverse gifts of single persons throughout the U.S.

April 29-30 is the weekend for collection of the Catholic Home Missions Appeal, whose theme this year is "Strengthening the Church at Home."
