WASHINGTON (October 20, 2000) --The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) of the U. S. Catholic Conference announced winners of its 2000 Proclaim Awards honoring excellence in diocesan communications, at the Unda-USA annual assembly.
The awards were presented September 28, as members of Unda, a Catholic Association for communications professionals, met in Orlando, Florida.
Thirteen Proclaim awards were given to 11 dioceses.
The Archdiocese of San Antonio took two awards, both for Mass programs. The first award was in the category of Regular Television Mass and featured the story of Our Lady of Guadálupe, which recounted the apparitions of the Virgin to the Mexican peasant Juan Diego. The second was in the category of Special Television Mass, for an All Saints/All Souls Day celebration, which marked the Hispanic custom of honoring the memory of the dead and the communion of saints.
The Archdiocese of St. Louis also took two awards, one in the category of Television Public Service Announcements, for "Reconciliation Weekend," which stressed forgiveness and reconciliation in advance of the Jubilee Year. The second award was in the category of Radio Public Announcements, for "Come Home for Christmas," which encourage listeners who had stopped attending church to return.
Ramón E. Rodríguez, of the Catholic Communication Campaign, presented the Proclaim trophies and certificates of merit.
The Catholic Communication Campaign produces and supports media projects that promote Gospel values and is funded by an annual collection in Catholic parishes nationwide. The U.S. bishops created the CCC in 1978 and established the Proclaim Awards in 1981. Over 127 Proclaim Award entries were reviewed by a Dallas based jury in July, under the Chairmanship of Bishop Joseph A. Galante, Coadjutor Bishop of Dallas and incoming chair of the USCC Communications Committee.
