WASHINGTON (November 7, 2000) -- Pope John Paul II has appointed Father Jerome E. Listecki, pastor of St.
Ignatius Church, Chicago, as Titular Bishop of Nara and Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago.
Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, announced the appointment.
Jerome Listecki was born in Chicago on March 12, 1949. He attended Quigley South High School, Loyola University, and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary, Mundelein, Illinois. He later studied at De Paul University College of Law where he earned the degree Doctor of Civil Law.
Bishop-designate Listecki was ordained a priest on June 1, 1975. From 1979 to 1983 he attended the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, earning a J.C.D., and the Pontifical Gregorian University, earning an S.T.D.
Following ordination, he was associate pastor of St. Margaret Mary, Chicago, 1975-1976, associate pastor of Mater Christi and professor at Quigley Preparatory Seminary North, 1976-1979. He was named theological instructor at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary, Mundelein in 1983.
Bishop-designate Listecki was appointed pastor of St. Ignatius church earlier this year.
