WASHINGTON (March 29, 2001) -- The second edition for the United States of Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, the Spanish language version of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, in both soft and hard cover formats, will be available for distribution in early April from the United States Catholic Conference and Our Sunday Visitor, Inc.
Like the second English edition, published last year, the second edition of the Spanish language catechism is enhanced by the inclusion of several new features and incorporates modifications from the Latin editio typica released in 1997. The editio typica is the official Latin text of the Catechism.
The new edition contains the Apostolic Letter Laetamur Magnopere, which approved and promulgated the Latin edition.
It also includes the Index Analyticus translated from Latin into Spanish. The translation was done by the Bishops' Conference of Spain which gave USCC the right to use it in the second edition.
The glossary which appears in the English second edition was translated into Spanish for this edition.
The first edition of the Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica was released internationally in 1992.
