Pope Accepts Resignation of Bishop J. Kendrick Williams of Lexington

WASHINGTON (June 10, 2002) – Pope John Paul II has accepted the resignation of the Most Reverend J. Kendrick Williams from the office of Bishop of Lexington, Kentucky.

The announcement was made by Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States.

Born in Athertonville, Kentucky, September 5, 1936, J. Kendrick Williams studied at St. Mary's College, St Mary, KY, and St. Maur's School of Theology in South Union, KY. He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Covington April 25, 1984, and first Bishop of Lexington on January 14, 1988.
