Conference President Invites Continued Dialogue with 'SNAP'

WASHINGTON (June 10, 2002) – Belleville Bishop Wilton D. Gregory, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), said today that he would consider the participation of the Survivors' Network for Those Abused by Priests (SNAP) in a dialogue to take place between victims and the Conference's Ad Hoc Committee on Sexual Abuse and a delegation of Cardinals.

SNAP was party to a lawsuit filed last week against the USCCB and several dioceses which precluded going ahead with the planned meeting.

Now that SNAP has announced that it is withdrawing its participation in the lawsuit, the USCCB and the organization will be in contact about re-framing the planned discussion.
