Pope Accepts Resignation of Auxiliary Bishop Marconi of Newark

WASHINGTON (July 1, 2002) -- Pope John Paul II has accepted the resignation of Auxiliary Bishop Dominic A. Marconi, 75, of Newark.

Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, made the announcement.

Dominic Marconi was born in Newark, March 13, 1927. He studied at Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey, and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Darlington, and was ordained a priest of the Newark archdiocese May 30, 1953. He was appointed Titular Bishop of Bure and Auxiliary Bishop of Newark May 3, 1976, and ordained June 25, 1976.
