Bishops Invite Area Catholics to 9/11 Mass at Shrine

WASHINGTON (September 5, 2002) –- Bishop Wilton D. Gregory, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, is inviting area Catholics to join the members of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' Administrative Committee at a Mass in Remembrance of the attacks of September 11, 2001, in a Prayer for Peace in Time of War.

The Mass will be celebrated at noontime, Wednesday, September 11, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington.

Bishop Gregory will be the principal celebrant and homilist. Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, archbishop of Washington, will be in attendance.

The National Shrine is located adjacent to The Catholic University of America campus, at 400 Michigan Ave. NE in Washington.

The service will be broadcast live by the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).
