Pope Accepts Resignation of Auxiliary Bishop Fitzgerald Of Joliet

WASHINGTON (June 4, 2003) -— Pope John Paul II has accepted the resignation of Auxiliary Bishop James E. Fitzgerald of Joliet.

Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, made the announcement.

James Fitzgerald was born December 30, 1938 in Chicago. He attended Conception Seminary in Missouri and DePaul University in Chicago and was ordained a priest of the Joliet diocese May 23, 1964.

He was appointed Titular Bishop of Walla Walla and Auxiliary Bishop of Joliet, January 11, 2002.
