The National Review Board, currently led by interim chair Justice Anne M. Burke, was commissioned in June 2002 by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to provide advice and guidance to the USCCB and to its President, Bishop Wilton D. Gregory, as well as monitor the Bishops' Office for Child and Youth Protection (OCYP). The OCYP was established to address clergy sexual abuse of children. The National Review Board is also charged by the bishops with commissioning two studies: one on the nature and scope, the other on the causes and context of the problem of clergy sexual abuse of children.
