Streaming Video of Bishops' Meeting to Continue Through the End of the Year

WASHINGTON (November 14, 2003) -- The Department of Communications of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) announced that streaming video of portions of the proceedings from the USCCB's recently completed Fall General Meeting in Washington, DC, will continue to be available on the Conference website through January 5, 2004.

The special streaming video page for the meeting has been accessible via the Conference website since the opening day of the Bishops' Meeting on November 10th. It includes excerpts from presentations on the floor of the meeting, daily press conferences held at the end of the morning and afternoon sessions, and interviews with bishop participants, including Bishop Donald W. Trautman of Erie, PA, on Popular Devotional Practices: Basic Questions and Answers; Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore of Dodge City, KS, on "For I was hungry and you gave me food" (Mt. 25:35): Catholic Reflections on Food, Farmers, and Farmworkers; and Bishop J. Kevin Boland of Savannah, GA, on Between Man and Woman: Questions and Answers About Marriage and Same-Sex Unions.

The general meeting of the USCCB was held at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill, November 10th – 12th. At the meeting, the Bishops approved a document prepared by the Bishops' Ad Hoc Committee on Agricultural Issues titled, "Catholic Reflections on Food, Farmers, and Farmworkers", as well as a pastoral statement designed to assist Catholics in understanding the Church's teaching on marriage and same-sex unions. They also approved a revised set of socially responsible investment guidelines, a document calling young adults to recognize and to share the gifts that God has given them, and a pastoral statement on popular devotional practices prepared by the Bishops' Committee on Doctrine.

The Bishops also heard presentations from prelates of the African and Vietnamese Churches, a report from a task force on the participation of Catholics in public life, a panel on war and peace forty years after the watershed papal document "Pacem In Terris", and a discussion of the continuing work of the Office of Child and Youth Protection, the National Review Board, and the Ad Hoc Committee on Sexual Abuse.
