Pope Accepts Resignation Of Springfield Bishop Thomas L. Dupré

WASHINGTON (February 11, 2004) -- Pope John Paul II has accepted the resignation of Bishop Thomas L. Dupré of Springfield, Massachusetts.

Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, made the announcement.

Thomas L. Dupré was born in South Hadley Falls, MA, November 10, 1933. He studied at the Catholic University of America and at the Grand Seminary of Saint-Sulpice in Montreal and was ordained a priest of the Springfield diocese on May 23, 1959.

Bishop Dupré was named Titular Bishop of Hodelm and Auxiliary Bishop of Springfield, April 19, 1990. He was appointed Bishop of Springfield March 14, 1995.
