Msgr. Mitchell Rozanski Named Auxiliary Bishop Of Baltimore

WASHINGTON (July 2, 2004) -— Pope John Paul II named Monsignor Mitchell T. Rozanski, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Severna Park, as Auxiliary Bishop of Baltimore.

Bishop-elect Rozanski, 45, will also be Eastern Vicar for parishes in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, and Harford Counties in Maryland.

Mitchell Rozanski was born in Baltimore on August 6, 1958. He attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel High School, Essex, Maryland, and the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., before entering Theological College at Catholic University. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen on November 24, 1984.

The newly appointed Bishop's parish assignments included appointments at St. Michael, Overlea, in 1984, and the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in 1985. He was named associate pastor of St. Anthony, Baltimore, in 1985, and St. Isaac Jogues in that city in 1990. He was appointed administrator of Holy Cross and St. Mary Star of the Sea parishes in Baltimore in 1993, later serving as pastor.

Bishop-elect Rozanski was appointed temporary administrator of Immaculate Conception parish in Towson in January 2000 and in June of that year assumed the same duties for St. John the Evangelist, Severna Park. He was named Pastor of St. John the Evangelist in November, 2000.

The ordination of Bishop-elect Rozanski to the office of Bishop will take place on August 24.
