Pope Accepts Resignation Of Bishop Rueger, Auxiliary Bishop Of Worcester

WASHINGTON (January 25, 2005) - Pope John Paul II has accepted the resignation of Bishop George E. Rueger, auxiliary bishop of Worcester, Massachusetts.

Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, made the announcement.

George Rueger was born in Framingham, Massachusetts, September 3, 1930. He studied at St. John's Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts, where he earned a bachelor's degree, and at Boston College, where he earned a master's degree.

He was ordained a priest of the Worcester diocese, January 6, 1958, and auxiliary bishop January 16, 1987.
