WASHINGTON (April 29, 2005)—Two timely prayer cards – A Prayer for Mothers and A Prayer for Fathers – are now available from USCCB Publishing.
They are a continuation of Publishing's hugely popular prayer card series that includes "A Prayer for Families" and "A Prayer for Peace." "Prayer for Peace" has sold over 1.3 million copies since its introduction in 2001.
The prayer cards were developed to assist parents in teaching their children how to pray and to reinforce that catechesis for prayer is nurtured in the home.
"These prayer cards are a simple, practical, beautiful way to honor mothers and fathers and to prayerfully call to mind the important vocation of parenthood," said H. Richard McCord, director of the USCCB Secretariat for Family, Laity, Women and Youth.
"They would be a fine gift for all mothers and grandmothers, fathers and grandfathers during parish liturgies on Mothers Day and Fathers Day," he said. "They would create a visible link between what happens in the parish community and what is being celebrated at home in the domestic church."
A Prayer for Mothers is from "Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers." It features four images of mothers with children at various ages. The card is especially appropriate for use during the month of May which is dedicated to Mary, and for Mother's Day.
A Prayer for Fathers is taken from the "Rite of Baptism of Children." The image focuses on a father's hand holding the hand of his child. The purpose of the card is to celebrate the gift of fathers. It can be used on Father's Day and on the Feast of St. Joseph.
Each card focuses on the role of mothers or fathers as teachers and nurturers of their children.
