Msgr. Ronny E. Jenkins Appointed USCCB Associate General Secretary

WASHINGTON (December 16, 2005) — Msgr. Ronny E. Jenkins, Associate Professor of Canon Law, Catholic University of America, has been appointed Associate General Secretary of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). Msgr. David J. Malloy, USCCB General Secretary-elect, announced the appointment today.

"Msgr. Ronny Jenkins is an exemplary priest and an extraordinary scholar," Msgr. Malloy said. "He has provided invaluable help as a consultant to the USCCB for several years. I am delighted that his great gifts will now be placed full time at the service of the Conference."

A priest of the Diocese of Austin, Msgr. Jenkins was Associate Pastor, St. Louis Catholic Church, Waco, Texas, 1990-1991, Associate Pastor, St. Thomas Catholic Church, College Station, 1991, and Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mexia, Texas, 1992-1994.

Msgr. Jenkins earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Philosophy at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas, a Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology (S.T.B.) and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology (S.T.L.) at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, and a Licentiate in Canon Law (J.C.L.) at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. He has been Associate Professor of Canon Law at Catholic University since 2001.

Msgr. Jenkins was Adjutant Judicial Vicar, Diocese of Austin, 1997-1998, Lecturer in Canon Law, Oblate School of Theology, San Antonio, 1999-2001, and Judicial Vicar, Diocese of Austin, 1998-2001.

He is a member of the Canon Law Society of America, the Canon Law Society of Canada, the Canon Law Society of Great Britain and Ireland, the Canon Law Society of Australia and New Zealand, the International Society of Canon Lawyers, and the Consociatio Internationalis Studio Iuris Canonici Promovendo (International Society for the Promotion of the Study of Canon Law).

Since 2003, Msgr. Jenkins has been Special Consultant to the General Secretariat of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops on the Implementation of Sacramentorum Sanctitatis Tutela. He is a Consultant to the USCCB Committee on Canonical Affairs and Consultant to the Committee for the Protection of Children and Young People.

Msgr. Jenkins is Associate Editor of The Jurist, a Judge on the Canadian Appeal Tribunal for the Dioceses of Canada, and Postulator for the Cause of Canonization of Mary Virginia Merrick, a Washington, D.C. woman who founded the Christ Child Society to assist needy children.

He has published numerous articles and lectured extensively before organizations throughout the United States.

In his new post Msgr. Jenkins will succeed Msgr. Malloy, who has been an Associate General Secretary since 2001. The appointment is effective February 3, 2006.

Msgr. Jenkins will serve with two other Associate General Secretaries, Mr. Bruce Egnew, currently serving, and newly appointed Associate General Secretary Ms. Nancy Wisdo.
