Pope Accepts Resignation of Bishop Milone of Great Falls-Billings

WASHINGTON (July 12, 2006)—Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of Bishop Anthony M. Milone of Great Falls-Billings, Montana, for reasons of health.

The announcement was made by Archbishop Pietro Sambi, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States.

Anthony M. Milone was born in Omaha, September 24, 1932. He studied at Conception Seminary, Conception, Missouri, the North American College and the Gregorian University in Rome, and was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Omaha on December 15, 1957.

Bishop Milone was appointed Titular Bishop of Plestia and Auxiliary Bishop of Omaha, November 10, 1981. He was appointed Bishop of Great Falls-Billings December 14, 1987, and installed February 23, 1988.

The Diocese of Great Falls-Billings comprises the eastern part of the State of Montana. It was established in 1904 as the Diocese of Great Falls and renamed the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings in 1980.
