WASHINGTON (July 26, 2006) –The Catholic Communication Campaign of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops announced the winners of its annual Proclaim Awards honoring excellence in diocesan communications during the 2006 Catholic Media Convention held in Nashville, TN.
Twelve Proclaim Awards and eleven certificates of merit were presented to sixteen dioceses throughout the country. Entries were reviewed by a jury of media representatives from the USCCB, the Diocese of Arlington (VA), the Catholic Academy for Communications Arts Professionals, and Visual Edge and Atlantic Video, Inc. of Washington, DC. This marked the 25th year of the awards program. The 2006 Proclaim Awards can be viewed on streaming video at http://www.atlanticvideo.com/clients/ccom.
Demonstrating their consistent abilities in producing quality programs with meaningful content, several winners from past years were honored again in 2006. The Diocese of Trenton (NJ), the Diocese of Toledo (OH), the Diocese of Scranton (PA), and the Archdiocese of Seattle (WA) again walked away with Proclaim Awards in two categories. The Archdiocese of Hartford (CT.) received two certificates of merit.
The Diocese of Trenton won in the talk show category for Dealing with Difficulties, a forum for teenagers to discuss how they responded to crises, and in the radio advertisement category for Realfaith TV: New Season Spot, an advertisement promoting the Realfaith television series targeted to teenagers who would not otherwise watch or listen to faith-based programming.
The Diocese of Scranton won in the category of special television masses for Chrism Mass, a live broadcast during Holy Week, and the regular television masses category for The Daily Mass from St. Peter's Cathedral. The Diocese of Toledo won in the category of multimedia campaigns for Catholic Schools A+ Campaign, designed to promote the benefits of Catholic schools, and also in the category of other/print for Central City Ministry of Toledo Marketing, a promotional material campaign to increase awareness of the Central City Ministry Schools. The Archdiocese of Seattle was honored in the category of general excellence for The Catholic Northwest Progress, the official diocesan newspaper, as well as for the category of special inserts, features or series.
The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) develops media programming, projects, and resources that promote Gospel values. The work of the campaign is made possible by generous donations of Catholic parishioners who contribute to the CCC's annual appeal. Fifty percent of the funds remain in the diocese for local projects.
