Catholic Communication Campaign Announces 2007 'Good News' Art Contest

WASHINGTON (October 23, 2006) — The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is inviting children to take part in an art contest that asks them to consider how Jesus would deliver the Good News today.

The contest, open to first through sixth graders, reflects the theme of World Communications Day 2007: Children and the Media: A Challenge for Education. Information about entering the contest, and last year's winning entries, can be found at www.CatholicCommunicationCampaign.org.

The deadline for submissions is March 5. Contest winners will be announced May 1. First, second and third prizes will be selected on the basis of originality and creativity. Cash prizes of $250, $150 and $100 will be awarded and winning artwork will be featured on the CCC web site. All participants can download Certificates of Appreciation from the web site after May 1. Questions regarding the contest can be sent to contest@CatholicCommunicationCampaign.org.

"We are asking each child to select a medium and draw how Jesus would personally deliver the Good News," said Ramon Rodriguez, Director of Development for the CCC. "Last year, more than 1,600 students from across the United States submitted unique art work that demonstrated that children see Jesus as part of their ordinary experience. Many drew Jesus at a computer, sending e-mail, calling or text messaging on a cell phone."

The annual Catholic Communication Campaign has supported a variety of Catholic programming both nationally and locally for more than 25 years. The 2007 CCC collection will take place in most parishes the weekend of May 20.
