Msgr. Daniel Flores of Corpus Christi Named Detroit Auxiliary Bishop

WASHINGTON (October 28, 2006) — Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Monsignor Daniel E. Flores, 45, Rector of Corpus Christi Cathedral, as Auxiliary Bishop of Detroit and Titular Bishop of Cozila.

Archbishop Pietro Sambi, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, announced the appointment.

Daniel Flores was born in Palacios, Texas, August 28, 1961. He attended the University of Dallas for two years and then entered Holy Trinity Seminary.

Bishop-elect Flores was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Corpus Christi on January 30, 1988. Following ordination, he studied at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas in Rome where he earned a doctorate in theology.

His priestly assignments have included: Chancellor of the Corpus Christi diocese; secretary to the Bishop and Master of Ceremonies; Rector, St. John Vianney House of Studies; Episcopal Vicar for Priestly Formation and Education; Formation Director, St. Mary's Seminary, Houston; and Professor of Theology, University of St. Thomas.

Bishop-elect Flores served as Vice-Rector of St. Mary's Seminary from 2002 to 2006. He was named Rector of Corpus Christi Cathedral earlier this year.
