POPE ACCEPTS RESIGNATION OF BISHOP PELOTTE OF GALLUP

WASHINGTON—Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of Bishop Donald E. Pelotte, SSS, 63, from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Gallup, New Mexico, in accordance with Canon 401.2 of the Code of Canon Law.

Canon 401.2 relates to the resignation of a bishop due to ill health or another serious reason. Bishop Pelotte has been on a medical leave of absence from his position as bishop of the diocese since January.

Bishop Pelotte is a member of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament and has been a bishop since 1986.
