Most Rev Joseph Fiorenza
President of USCCB
3211 4th Street NE
Washington DC 20017-1194

Dear Bishop Fiorenza,

My fellow Bishops and I are deeply saddened by the traumatic attacks made upon New York and Washington and in particular to know that Bishop Kenneth Angells has lost his brother and sister-in-law.

Please be assured of the prayers of the whole Catholic community in England and Wales at this time of national mourning in the United States. The Bishops of England and Wales echo your words that this is a time to renew our trust in God and to turn away from the bitter fruits of hatred.

We are united with you in the sorrow of the cross and in the hope of the resurrection.

+ Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor
President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales
