Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines

Manila
September 12, 2001

Greetings in the Lord!

On behalf of the Bishops of the Philippines may I express our heartfelt solidarity with you and the Bishops of the United States as you comfort, encourage and strengthen your people in this hour of incredible disaster, suffering, and grief.

I enclose a copy of an urgent circular that I have sent to our own Bishops here.

May the peoples of the world and their leaders-one human family under God-seriously respond to the Lord's call for justice, peace and love, truly become aware of the evil hatred and anger that move people to morally unjustifiable terrorism, and thus transcend self-interests for the sake of global justice and peace.

With prayers and best wishes-in the Lord,

Archbishop Orlando B. Quevedo, O.M.I.
Archbishop of Cotabato
President
