Diocese of Mpika, Zambia

Mpika, Zambia
September 13, 2001

Greetings from Zambia in Africa. Your Excellency, this is just a note to express to you and through you to US Catholic Bishops Conference, the Catholic Church in the USA and all the American people our most sincere and heartfelt condolences on the death of so many innocent lives in the September 11 New York and Washington DC horrific attack. We in this diocese and the whole country are completely stunned by the senseless act of mass murder by enemies of humanity and the sacredness of life. No political objective however noble can even justify the cold blooded and cruel murder of so many innocent civilians. Our hearts reach out to the victims' families, friends and relatives and the people of the two cities and all Americans who have been so brutally traumatized by this horrendous act. We would like to express our solidarity with you the American Church and nation. The attack on New York and Washington has been an attack on the world. If such a horror can be inflicted on America, who is safe in this world? Rest assured of our humble prayers for you, for the bereaved and for all Americans. Kindly convey my sympathies particularly to Cardinals Egan of New York and McCarrick of Washington.

T-G Mpundu
