Suggestions for Liturgical Planning

  1. Work with your parish liturgy committee to develop a plan to help liturgies reflect the Jubilee Year 2000. Some ideas might include:

    • Regular mention of World Youth Day in the prayer of the faithful.
    • The assembly might be asked to contribute to a collection of items that the community might give to an organization whose work is an extension of Christ's abundant life. For example: food, clothing, items for personal hygiene, medicine, children's toys, books, crafts, letters of support, etc.
    • The liturgy committee might extend a special invitation to youth and young adults to become liturgical ministers.
    • A special banner could be placed in the church reflecting the theme of the WYD 2000, "The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us" (Jn 1:14) or the Jubilee 2000 theme of "Open Wide the Doors to Christ".
    • Special prayers and blessings could be used for specific days of preparation as well as send off and welcome home liturgical celebrations. (see Book of Blessings or optional prayer services provided in this Guidebook)

  2. The parish might designate a specific weekend as Homecoming Sunday. A special effort could be made to invite youth and young adults back to church.

  3. Consider a display in the vestibule of the church highlighting youth and young adults in the parish.
