Kotch -- Walter Matthau captures to perfection the eccentric but loveable grandfather who adores children and befriends an unwed teenage mother (Deborah Winters) when his son (Charles Aldman) places him in an old age home. Directed by Jack Lemmon, it's an old-fashioned sentimental melodrama, full of warmth and fun, but avoids some of the serious implications of the situation. (A-III) (GP) ( 1971 )
