  • Man from Laramie, The -- Uneven Western opens with a stranger (James Stewart) arriving in a prairie town on the trail of his brother's killer whom, after repeated run-ins with a local rancher (Donald Crisp), his loco son (Alex Nicol) and devious foreman (Arthur Kennedy), he finally finds selling repeating rifles to Apaches. Directed by Anthony Mann, the plot is familiar but the action scenes are done with style and conviction, helping sustain interest until the predictable outcome. Stylized violence, some quite nasty, and mild romantic complications. (A-II) (br) ( 1955 )
