  • Manpower -- Slick melodrama in which a bar hostess (Marlene Dietrich) marries a man (Edward G. Robinson) she doesn't love, then yearns for her husband's buddy (George Raft) who wants nothing to do with her. Director Raoul Walsh convincingly visualizes the dangerous world of men who risk their lives working on high-voltage power lines, but the story of a woman coming between two pals is too contrived to earn any sympathy. Romantic complications and menacing situations. (A-II) (br) ( 1941 )
