  • Miracle Woman, The -- Dated drama in which an embittered minister's daughter (Barbara Stanwyck) falls in with a cynical grifter (Sam Hardy) who turns her into a big-time evangelist until she's reformed by the love of a blind composer (David Manners). Directed by Frank R. Capra, the expose of a fake faith healer is softened by the sentimental romance but the two strands never quite jell, despite fine performances and a number of memorable scenes, especially the roaring finale as fire consumes a packed tabernacle. Exploiting people's religious faith, sexual situations and romantic complications. (A-III) (br) ( 1931 )
