  • Requiem for a Heavyweight -- Gritty drama in which a social worker (Julie Harris) tries to help a punched-out prizefighter (Anthony Quinn) find a new line of work until stymied by his manager (Jackie Gleason) who plans to square his debts by turning the boxer into a clownish wrestler. Directed by Ralph Nelson from Rod Serling's TV script, the result is an emotionally strong picture of a broken-down boxer trying to retain some human dignity after 17 years in the ring. Brutal boxing scenes and corrupt aspects of the fight game. (A-II) (br) ( 1962 )
