  • Strangers on a Train -- Uneasy thriller about the aftermath of a chance conversation between a tennis player (Farley Granger) and a rich psychopath (Robert Walker) who proposes that each kill the person the other wishes were dead. Despite the script's ragged plotting, director Alfred Hitchcock makes the concept of "crossover" murders chillingly plausible, fueled by Walker's edgy performance, Farley's inept innocence and a frightening finale in an amusement park. Faithless wife, stylized violence and mounting menace. (A-III) (br) ( 1951 )
