  • Vagabond King, The -- Lackluster adaptation of the Rudolph Friml operetta in which rebel poet Francois Villon (Italian tenor Oreste) wins the love of a noblewoman (Kathryn Grayson) by rousing the people of Paris to save Louis XI (Walter Hampden) from the invading forces of Burgundy. Directed by Michael Curtiz, the pedestrian proceedings are interrupted occasionally by songs and a few dance numbers, but the result is largely unmemorable. Stylized violence. (A-I) (br) ( 1956 )
