  • We Live Again -- Hollywood version of Leo Tolstoy's novel, "Resurrection," about a(R) ussian prince (Fredric March) who learns years later that he has ruined the life of a peasant girl (Anna Sten) on his aunt's estates by leaving her pregnant, then tries to atone by joining her when she is sent to Siberia for a crime of which she is innocent. Director Rouben Mamoulian evokes both the beauty of the Russian spirit and the injustices of the czarist regime but the characters and their emotions are melodramatically thin. Muddled treatment of an idealistic theme.(A-II) (br) ( 1934 )
