August 5th -- EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
For those most discouraged by life,
and especially those who have grown old and ill,
that when faced with sorrow, pain, and grief,
God may teach us how to love and sustain them;
We pray to the Lord:
August 12th -- NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
For all mothers and fathers,
and especially parents of an unborn child,
that God might fill their hearts
with expectant joy and love which daily grows;
We pray to the Lord:
August 19th -- TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
For all who are in danger of death,
and especially for victims of violence or war,
that God might hear their cry and save their lives;
We pray to the Lord:
August 26th -- TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
That each day of our lives,
we may be open to God's grace
and embrace each opportunity
to live lives of gratitude for the Gospel
and joy in the manifold gifts of God;
We pray to the Lord:
" ...our voices must be raised once again on behalf of the value of life, security, physical integrity and freedom. Indeed, human life cannot be seen as an object to do with as we please, but as the most sacred and inviolable earthly reality. There can be no peace when this most basic good is not protected. It is not possible to invoke peace and despise life."
Bulletin Briefs
The energies of the nation ... shall be reserved for improvement of the condition of man, not wasted in his destruction.
How can nature be effectively defended if justification is claimed for acts which strike at the very heart of creation? Is it really possible to oppose the destruction of the environment while allowing in the name of comfort and convenience, the slaughter of the unborn and the procured death of the elderly and infirm, and the carrying out, in the name of progress, of unacceptable interventions and forms of experimentation at the very beginning of human life?
Those of you who work in the pro-life movement are... witnesses to the truth. You proclaim what many people wish to forget, that the unborn and the elderly, the sick and the handicapped, those on the margins of life, are human beings and children of God, made in His image, and that they deserve our love and respect, especially because they are weak and vulnerable.
