July 1st THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
That we may keep our eyes on Jesus,
the source of all life,
and work to protect and nurture
the littlest ones in his Kingdom;
We pray to the Lord:
July 8th FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
That the names of the faithful disciples of life,
may be written in heaven,
and that one day we may rejoice in peace before the Lord
with all who have died of violence, injustice or evil;
We pray to the Lord:
July 15th FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
For those who wait to die on death row,
that our prayers, concern and action
might give them peace
and draw them close to Christ;
We pray to the Lord:
July 22nd SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
That like Holy Abraham and Sarah,
we might welcome the stranger
and care for those who have been forgotten or rejected;
We pray to the Lord:
July 29th SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
For each mother tempted to abort her child,
that God's mercy may work through us
to bring her hope and healing
and the strength to do what is right;
We pray to the Lord:
How can we take our eyes away from Jesus as he dies on the Cross? On that face are concentrated the dark shadows of every suffering, every injustice, every violence inflicted on human beings throughout the course of history. But now, before the Cross, our everyday sorrows, and even death itself, appear clothed in the majesty of Christ abandoned and dying. — Pope John Paul II
Bulletin Briefs
The spouses have the inalienable right to found a family and to decide on the spacing of births and the number of children to be born, taking into full consideration their duties towards themselves, their children already born, the family and society, in a just hierarchy of values and in accordance with the objective moral order which excludes recourse to contraception, sterilization and abortion.
Man is more than the sum of his genetic inheritance: the biological cannot be separated from the spiritual, family and social dimensions without incurring the serious risk of suppressing the person's very nature and making him a mere object of analysis.
To date, five mammalian species (sheep, mice, goats, cows and pigs) have been cloned, however, survival of the nuclear clones has been uniformly low. The great majority of clones...die either at various stages of embryonic development, at birth, or soon after birth. Most newborn clones are overweight and have an increased and dysfunctional placenta. Those that survive the immediate perinatal period may die within days or weeks after birth with defects such as kidney or brain abnormalities, or with a defective immune system. Even apparently healthy adult clones may have subtle defects that cannot be recognized in the animal.
Joy should arise from the birth of every baby that is born (John 16:21), so that he is received with love and preparations made for the possibility of his growth in body and spirit. In this way, one cooperates in the very work of Christ, who defined his mission thus: " I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly" (John 10:10).
