Appointed Associate Pastor of St. Joseph parish in Santa Ana, June 1982 - July 1984

Attended Columbia University School of Social Work, New York City, 1984 – 1986

Graduated in May, 1986 with a Master in Social Work, MSW

Appointed Associate Director of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Orange, July 1986

Appointed Director of the Immigration and Citizenship Services at Catholic Charities in
December, 1986. Was involved with the implementation of the Immigration Reform and
Control Act of 1986.

Appointed Episcopal Vicar for the Hispanic Community, Diocese of Orange, March 3,
1989.

Named a Prelate of Honor by His Holiness, Pope John Paul II in 1990.

Appointed Vicar for Charities, Diocese of Orange, March 1, 1999.

Named Titular Bishop of Segia and Auxiliary of Orange, March 23, 2000. His Espicopal
Ordination took place on March 31, 2000, the Feast of the Visitation.

Appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Sacramento on October 11, 2007. His official reception
into the Diocese of Sacramento took place on November 17, 2007.

Bishop of Sacramento as of November 29, 2009.
