Intercessions on Confronting Global Poverty

For the Church, that we may renew our commitment to Jesus’ mission to “bring glad tidings to the poor… proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free.”

For the leaders of our nation, that their decisions may reflect respect for the life and dignity of every human being and manifest it in their concern for the poorest and most vulnerable members of society.

For those who are suffering from poverty and hunger, that they might be helped through our generosity and experience hope through our commitment to practicing charity and building a world of great justice and peace.

For members of this parish community, that we might reflect on Christ’s message of love for our neighbor and recommit ourselves to working to end poverty and hunger in our world.

Intercessions on Poverty Issues

(Foreign Assistance)
For our nation, that generosity and justice may guide our policies and inspire us to share our wealth in ways that promote the dignity and development of all God’s children in every land.

(Peace)
For our world leaders, that they may support peacekeeping efforts everywhere and that they may work to address conflicts before they become violent.

(Debt)
For wealthy nations, that Christ’s compassion and mercy may stir us to forgive the debts of impoverished countries so that they may invest in the needs of their people.

(Trade)
For the reform of our trade and agricultural policies, that they may foster sustainable development and equitable opportunities at home and abroad, especially for those who are most vulnerable.

(Natural Resources)
For those who profit from the treasures of the earth, that investors, corporations and governments may exercise responsible stewardship of natural resources and respect for local communities.

(Climate Change)
For greater appreciation and care for the gift of creation, that the creative spirit we share with our Maker may enrich our response to global climate change and our support for those who suffer most from its effects.

(Migration)
For those who lack economic resources in their home countries and immigrate to the United States, that concern for our shared future may lead us to address the root causes of migration and develop immigration policies that are based on human dignity.
